Glucosamine and Chondroitin Complex
When connective tissues (ligaments, tendons, cartilages and spinal discs) are made or repaired, collagen is laid down over a framework of glycosaminoglycans (GAG’s). The resultant structure holds water and nutrients allowing molecules to move through these tissues, where there is no blood supply, and provides a shock absorbing material that protects the joints. The major raw material for GAG production is Glucosamine, which is produced in the body from glucose and glutamine. Low levels of Glucosamine will hamper the growth and maintenance process.
Chondroitin helps attract moisture to the spaces of the cartilage, whilst the other constituents of this complex provide natural anti-inflammatory action.

Properties
Glucosamine - has a vital role throughout all stages of joint degeneration, as the major raw ingredient from which the body makes larger joint components called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The body’s synthesis of new glucosamine continues to decline with age, so the need for supplementation is ongoing.
Chondroitin - helps attract moisture to the spaces of the cartilage, improving it’s nutrition, and restores the viscosity of synovial fluid, so is perhaps the most suited to early stage osteoarthritis. In addition, chondroitin contributes to the ‘springiness’ of cartilage. Like glucosamine, to which it is structurally related, it also contributes to GAG formation.
Turmeric – the active ingredient is curcumin, which is responsible for the spice’s yellow colour. Curcumin is a strong antioxidant, protecting joint lining against attack from free radicals. It also lowers histamine levels and increases the natural production of cortisone to produce powerful anti-inflammatory effects.
Ginger – there are a group of pungent constituents in ginger collectively known as gingerols that are potent inhibitors of the inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Ginger also possesses blood-thinning effects and widens blood vessels, increasing blood flow, making it a potent circulatory aid.
Rosehip – exerts an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing white blood cell production that is in turn responsible for the inflammatory response at the site of irritation.
